I figured I’d finally start posting about the other fitness things I’m doing!
I love love LOVE pilates. There are so many reasons I am addicted! If done properly, it is challenging. Pilates focuses on core strength and using gravity and your own body weight to tone. It increases flexibility and balance, and is amazing for your posture! I have known several women who do awesome strength training to build muscle mass, along with a great regular cardio routine, but STILL have lost many MORE inches off their waistline & thighs by incorporating pilates into their routine. If you prefer a slimmer/leaner look, rather than a stronger, more muscular build…pilates might be for you! It will tone your body in a very long and lean way. No equipment is needed at all for mat pilates workouts, only enough floor space to do it!
After taking a few mat classes at a local pilates studio (to be certain of proper form!), I searched the internet high and low for free pilates videos to do on a regular basis at home. My very favorite thus far is from Cassey Ho of Blogilates! Here is her YouTube Channel FULL of amazing 10 minute “POP Pilates” videos. There is also a brand new “POP Cardio” video, which I hope is the first of many! This one is great if you don’t have home equipment or a gym membership, can’t get outside for a run, etc… and need a way to get your heart pumping!
Also, if you are pregnant, pilates is a great way to keep your core muscles toned and will help you “bounce back” MUCH faster! (Some of the exercises have to be modified after your 1st trimester. All pilates exercises can be modified to any level of experience, another great thing about it!) I was shocked to look in the mirror for the first time after having baby number two. I DREADED looking at my saggy tummy, remembering how long it took after my first child for things to go back to any sort of normal! I had done no core toning before my first, but between babies is when I got into pilates! After my second, I looked AMAZING for just having a baby! I had done pilates only about 3x a week for a month before I became pregnant, then did prenatal pilates throughout my pregnancy. Oh, the difference it made! 🙂
So that is my experience with pilates! Any questions, comments or links you would like to share, feel free! I am always up to talk pilates 🙂
